Changing Lives Through Jesus Christ!
Adult Sunday Groups
Here at Leeds First we believe Sunday School is an important part of knowing God's Word and each other. Class begins each Sunday morning at 9:45AM and we hope you will come be a part of this great ministry. In addition to our classes for children and youth, here are descriptions of our adult classes.
The Joy Class - J Stands for Jesus, O Stands for Others Y stands for yourself second
The JOY Class began in 1954. They meet in the parlor of our main church building down the hall from the sanctuary from 9:45 to 10:30. Our class gives to Leeds- Moody Welfare, Leeds FUMC Youth, and other church projects. Class members deliver meals on wheels, take flowers to shut-ins, and sing in the choir. Our class has 20-22 members who are mainly seniors but are open to anyone. Our curriculum is from the UMC publishing House.
The Cornerstone Class -
The Cornerstone class is a diverse group of middle aged (40 yrs plus) married and single persons. Our teachers rotate weekly with scripture based lessons from a Bristol House series. As a class we enjoy fellowship, food and fun while keeping up with all our important family, church, and spiritual issues. To share Jesus Christ in the community, throughout the year we offer assistance to people in need and sponsor a family every Christmas. Our classroom is over in the Family Life Center.
The Fellowship Class -
Random House defines fellowship as: a friendly relationship or compainionship...this is the spirit of the current Sunday School Class.
The members are 55 and ups (mainly ups!) We use the Sunday School material of the UMC.
The members are of one mind regarding general congreational needs, local concerns and mission projects. Donations are given to many projects including grass cutting in season, youth meals, Jimmie Hale Mission and Leeds- Moody Cooperative. Our classroom is in the Family Life Center.
The Seeker Class -
The Seekers Sunday school class is small adult study group consisting of enthusiastic members who enjoy learning about Christian beliefs and history. As the name implies, The Seekers class yearns to develop a better understanding of God's plan for us and how we can become His true disciples.
The Seekers use short duration studies from such resources as Cokesbury and The Upper Room. Past studies have included works such as the Companion in Christ series, Three Months with John by Justo l. Gonzalez, Traveling the Prayer Paths of Jesus, Genesis of Grace, and The Man God Uses by Henry and Tom Blackaby. The class members decide on future studies through class discussion.
Although The Seekers have a class leader, there is not one designated teacher. Class members are encouraged, but not required, to lead studies. During the discussions to choose studies, members can volunteer to lead upcoming sessions.
The Seekers meet each Sunday morning at 9:45 a.m. in The Seekers classroom in the Family Life Center.
Agape Class (God's Love) -
We are a mixture of adults in their 20s to 40s with children of all ages and without. Our laid back class enjoys studying a variety of lessons that we can apply to everyday life. We enjoy discussions on how God's love works around us and how we should have a better personal relationship with God. Our class is very open to newcomers to the discussion and class activities. Our room is located downstair in the main church building, just off the fellowship hall, near the children's Sunday School rooms. Come and join us in becoming God's Friend.
