Life Together

June 20, 2025

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” Psalm 133:1 (NIV)

When we become Christians, we are initiated into a body of believers—a faith family. We become connected to each other in deep and everlasting ways. We become the body of Christ. So often in our culture today we tend to think of faith as something that is ours alone, but as someone once said, while faith is personal, it is not private. Through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit, we who are the church are connected to God and to one another. This is why John Wesley boldly declared in the Preface to the 1739 Hymns and Sacred Poems, “The gospel of Christ knows of no religion but social; no holiness but social holiness.”

In the weeks ahead, we will look at what it means for us to live our lives in Christian community in a new sermon series called Life Together. We will begin by discussing the biblical foundation for living in such a connected manner. Then we will look at the three primary works of the church: worship, discipleship, and mission. My prayer is that through this series we will not only gain an understanding of what it means to live in Christian community but also that we will be inspired and encouraged to live faithfully as the church.
