Growing Toward Full Sanctification

September 26, 2025

“Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.” Philippians 1:27

In Philippians 1:27 Paul writes, “Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.” Paul’s letter to the Philippians is often considered his most winsome and uplifting writing.

Throughout this joy-filled and encouraging letter, Paul urges the Philippians to greater and greater levels of knowledge, love, humility, persistence, perseverance, and unity in Christ as the means to living such a life.  As faithful as the Philippian church has been, Paul knows the dangers of complacency, and his deep hope is that the believers in Philippi will press on. Paul also recognizes that God’s desire is for His people to grow towards full sanctification. So Paul, like a loving father, urges his spiritual children on, pushing them on to a life worthy of the gospel of Christ.

I hope you’ll join us at Leeds First Methodist for a new sermon series starting this Sunday as we make our way through this letter to the Philippian church, exploring what it means for us to live our lives in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.
